Crystals in the Window

I am lucky. I grew up in one house, the house my parents haved owned and cared for, for 30 plus years. I love it's smells and sounds. I love seeing how it's changed over years and years. I am thankful that my kids get to come to the home where I have so many good memories. But the thing that makes this home so great are the people who live here. I think when my parents bought this house they knew this was it. It was a tiny farm house with three bedrooms. It has since had a garage and back porch enclosed to create more rooms and living space. Many coats of paint, a new kitchen, two bathroom overhauls, and that's just the inside. The outside is well taken care of. A beautiful lawn and gardens. My parents are industrious and hard working. This place will always be a home to me. My home now is with my own little family but I like coming to my parents home and being reminded of what it was like to live here and grow here. So much of this home is my mom. My dad takes care of things too but the reason this house is a home is because of my mom. Things here are just so her and I love it. The crystals that hang in her bedroom window that make rainbows in the afternoon. The sounds of a pressure cooker doing its thing. Looking outside and seeing her examine the garden. Walks around the park. Watching summer movies like 9 to 5. Yard sales. New crafts to decorate the house. Everything that makes this house a home. My grandma was an artist, she painted very well. I have always felt that she gave her creative gene to my mom. My mom's canvas is her home and she had made a good one.
